Fight climate change with wildflowers
If you really want to take action on carbon emissions and boost biodiversity, planting trees isn't always the best option. Wildflowers start sequestering carbon within the first year of planting, and provide food and a habitat for wildlife including pollinators.
"We look forward to offsetting more carbon in the future.
We started working with my square meter as we wanted to offset the space and carbon we use every day. It’s important to Optimum Safety to protect not only the businesses we work with but the wider place. Very much a part of this is doing what we can for the environment. We would highly recommend them and look forward to offsetting even more carbon with them in the future." Chris Owen – Optimum Safety
Keeping our ecosystem thriving
The UK has lost 97% of its meadowland since the 1930s - 7.5 million acres or an area the size of Wales. 1,400 species of insects need wildflowers and other meadow plants for survival, as well as birds, mammals and other wildlife that keeps our ecosystem thriving.
Giving pollinators a home
We need pollinators such as bees, butterflies and other insects for food production as 70% of our crops require pollination. Just a square metre of meadowland can be home to up to 500 wildflowers, provide food for life for 12 bees, and takes 3kg of carbon out of the atmosphere.
Protecting our land
The land we plant on is protected and managed by My Square Metre for 30 years, afterwards it either remains fully established meadowland, used for innovative green agriculture projects or other sustainable projects. The land is continually surveyed and monitored, this data is shared with other environmental organisations to help with their efforts.
Use our carbon calculators to work out the carbon footprint of regular activities, like driving, grabbing a coffee, or even spending time on social media. Just input your monthly usage of the activities below and work out how much carbon is produced - then offset this with a one-time purchase or monthly subscription. And that’s it!Get started
