My Square Metre’s first meadow was established over roughly two years from bare land to an active habitat, with a second meadow in progress, each around 5,000 m2.
Field 1 planting began in February 2023, with a planned expansion on a second field from March 2024. The programme emphasises surveying and strategic land selection developed alongside experts at the University of Lincoln.
The fields are positioned as long-term habitat restoration on lower-grade or degraded land, with a 30-year stewardship model and repeated monitoring intent.
Annual cutting is central to maintaining plant diversity and suppressing nutrient enrichment effects that favour aggressive species, in line with our FAQ guidance about annual cutting and avoiding fertilisers and pesticides.
Reported observations include crickets, bees, and butterflies using the site, alongside a noticeable increase in worms. As of Lincolnshire Life reporting in March 2025, Meadow 1 was described as complete and Meadow 2 as roughly halfway established.
